Last year, the Ministry of Rural Welfare provided 686 million dinars for the purchase of 651 rural houses, and another 500 million dinars of non-refundable funds for the same purpose and an additional 500 million dinars for improving the business of cooperatives throughout Serbia are planned for this year. These funds will be awarded in a competition that will be published on the website of the Ministry of Village Care and in public media with national coverage in the first quarter of this year.

According to the competition, money for the purchase of a country house with a garden is awarded to spouses, extramarital partners, single parents, and young farmers up to the age of 45 years. Candidates must meet certain conditions in a public competition—primarily that they are of legal age, that they do not have real estate in their name or that they have not alienated it in the previous five years, and they are not related to the seller, reports the biznis.rs portal.

In addition, the applicants' village house with a garden must meet specific requirements, including being conditional for life, being located outside of urban and suburban communities, and having all property and legal issues settled.

One of the primary requirements is that the real estate's total market value does not exceed 1,200,000 dinars. The assessment is carried out by an authorized person who, on behalf of the local self-government unit, goes out into the field and certifies that the residence is conditional for life and what its value is with his signature.

Even before the competition was announced, Tijana Nešić, the assistant minister of rural welfare, said there was a lot of interest in it. "We hope to be able to provide housing for around 500 more individuals and families with these funds, and we will work to gradually increase these amounts in response to need. The most essential thing is that the government is prepared to meet with anyone who sees their future in Serbian villages,“ Nešić points out.

Last year, these grants were spent on the purchase of 651 rural houses, which are located in 100 local self-government units. In this way, 515 married and unmarried couples, 81 young farmers, and 55 single parents with children came to the house.

According to the Ministry, last year the most sought-after villages for buying houses were in the following municipalities: Bačka Palanka, Zrenjanin, Apatin, Kikinda, Sombor, Kula, Bač, Knjaževac, Lučani, Trstenik, Vladičin Han i Pirot.
