The Republic of Serbia has recently became the owner of a new building in a prestigious location in the center of Washington. The property was acquired by the Republic of Serbia as public property for the purposes of the Embassy in Washington, which had not had its own official buildings until now and had worked in rented and unrepresentative temporary business structures since the split of the old Yugoslavia, according to the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Washington.

During the ceremony of handing over the keys, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Washington, Marko Đurić, expressed special contentment that Serbia finally has a new home after several decades in rented, unconditional spaces where there was no adequate or decent way to represent the country. This new, neo-renaissance historic building was owned by former US Secretary of State Elihu Ruth, and has now become the new building of the Serbian Embassy.

Đurić stated that the new building will serve as a vital meeting place for the Serbian diaspora and community, not only in Washington but also accross America in general.

The new home of the highest Serbian diplomatic mission in the United States is the result of hard work in Washington in recent months, and also represents essential understanding and support in Belgrade, said Đurić and added that he was grateful to the American hosts from the State Department and the city of Washington, who helped with all the necessary administrative procedures.
