EUROPEAN CONSTRUCTION SECTOR MARKS GROWTH DESPITE THE CRISIS

The volume of construction works in the Eurozone in September increased by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis, and by 0.2 percent in the EU.

On an annual basis, those two areas recorded growth, the area with the euro by one percent, and the EU by 1.4 percent. According to European statisticians, Slovenia recorded the second highest annual growth in the volume of construction works.

In September, in the Eurozone, the volume of work on construction objects increased by 0.6 percent, and on high-rise construction by 0.1 percent, Eurostat announced.

In the EU, the volume of works on civil engineering buildings increased by 1.5 percent, while construction on high-rise buildings decreased by 0.1 percent, reports SEEbiz.

Among the countries for which data were available, Poland recorded the largest monthly decline of 5.8 percent. Portugal (-2.7 percent) and Austria (-2.6 percent) follow. The highest growth was recorded by Romania (+3.2 percent), followed by Sweden (+2.8 percent) and Hungary (+2.2 percent).

Observed on an annual basis, the volume of works on high-rise construction in the eurozone increased by 0.2 percent, and on construction facilities by 1.2 percent. In the EU, the volume of construction works on high-rise buildings increased by 1.4 percent, and on low-rise buildings by 1.3 percent.

Among EU members, Romania (+26.2 percent), Slovenia (+26.1 percent) and Austria (+6.3 percent) recorded the highest annual growth.

The biggest decline occurred in Spain (-12.3 percent), the Czech Republic (-3.7 percent) and Germany (-2.6 percent).
