Novi Sad will soon get three new bridges: a bridge is currently being built between Kovilj and Petrovaradin, as part of the Fruškogorski Corridor, preparatory work has begun for the construction of the bridge in the extension of Bulevar Europa, and documentation is being prepared for the construction of the third bridge, on the foundations of the old Franz Josef Bridge.

"Novi Sad is the only city in Europe where three new bridges are being built," said the Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić, during the presentation of these three bridges projects, which was held on Tuesday in the City Hall in Novi Sad.

The Minister specified that the total investment allocated by the Republic of Serbia, the City of Novi Sad, and the Province for these three bridges will amount to approximately 370 million euros, or 1,250 euros per capita.

Vesić pointed out that the three new bridges mean less traffic in the city, less pollution, greater environmental protection, and a better and more comfortable life for all citizens of Novi Sad, and thus Serbia becomes a place for a better life for all people.

"Serbia is one of the few countries that continues to invest despite the crisis due to the war in Ukraine. We have not given up on any project, and we are investing 3.6 billion euros in infrastructure this year. Currently, there is no bigger environmental project than the Fruškogorski Corridor," said Vesić.

The bridge, which will be built on the foundations of the old Franz Josef Bridge, will be for pedestrians and bicycles, according to portal gradnja.rs. The 450-meter-long and 12-meter-wide structure will be connected to a tunnel, from which visitors will be able to take an elevator to the plateau of the Petrovaradin fortress.

From the Petrovaradin side, the bridge will cross over the Danube rampart and "enter" the tunnel that will lead to the elevator. It is an old railway tunnel about 350 meters long, and its exit leads to the area near "Lovoturs." The bridge and tunnel will be completely passable for pedestrians and cyclists, while the part of the tunnel will have a promotional and exhibition space dedicated to the history of the Petrovaradin fortress.

The structure of the bridge will be steel, and the fences will be glass. The floor for pedestrians will be made of wood, while the bike lanes will be made of tartan. The bridge should be built in 180 days from the start of the work.

As the portal gradnja.rs reminds, in the competition for the conceptual solution of the pedestrian-bicycle bridge on the pillars of the former Franc Jozef bridge organized in 2019, the victory was won by the solution signed by Fedor Jurić, Ivan Šuić and Ognjen Graovac. The winning solution served as the starting point for the design of this bridge on the pillars of Franz Josef bridge.
