The municipality of Dimitrovgrad has announced a tender for the development of a plan for the Gradinje cross-border industrial park.

As the President of Dimitrovgrad Municipality, Vladica Dimitrov, told eKapija, the park, the first of its kind in Serbia, would be located in the border crossing area of Gradina with Bulgaria, on a 2-hectare plot of land.

According to him, it is the most exclusive part of the municipal land next to the border crossing, in addition to another 8-10 hectares along the right side of the road to Bulgaria, where, according to the detailed regulation plan, the Gradina Commercial Center with commercial zones, industrial zones, and customs would be built…

"As part of that Commercial Center, we are planning to build a cross-border industrial park with Bulgaria, where plots would be offered to investors, mainly from the IT sector. We have already held international talks and there is interest, so we have announced a tender for that research part of the story, on which the further development of the project depends," reveals Dimitrov.

He estimates that all this could take several years, but that it would be the first cross-border industrial park in Serbia.

He adds that it is a good chance for development for the small and medium-sized companies in IT sector, given that the Bulgarians, as he says, have a far more developed IT industry than ours.

When it comes to financing the construction, Dimitrov says that European cross-border funds are being counted on, and the private sector would also be involved. In the tender documentation, it is stated that the goal of the project is to attract direct investments to the Municipality, accelerate the development of existing companies, as well as the formation of new companies and new employment, along with the implementation of new technologies.

The location is marked as one of the priorities in the policy of balanced regional development of Serbia. The development plan, it is stated, should contain economic analyses, the scope of planned investments in the area of the park, the activities that will be carried out, the assessment of the value of the goods that will be exported, the number of employees, the use of the free zone regime and the method of cooperation with the Bulgarian side on the formation of a joint cross-border of the industrial park at the location of Kalotina in Bulgaria.

Offers must be submitted by October 14.

BULGARIAN INVESTMENT WILL START SOON IN THE BELEŠ ZONE

The mayor of the municipality of Dimitrovgrad told eKapija that the Bulgarian company Megainvest Holding bought the plots of three companies that had not started production in Dimitrovgrad's Beleš industrial zone for several years, and that the Bulgarian investor plans to start the investment soon.

Those companies were threatened with confiscation of land, but an agreement was reached that the Bulgarians would buy their rights and the new investor is now in the procedure of forming a duty-free zone so that he can import the materials from which he will build the halls. One part will be for the production and packaging of seeds, peanuts and pistachios, one for making custom-made furniture, and one for drying and packaging fruits and vegetables from the territory of the municipality. As soon as the zone becomes duty-free, the implementation of the investment will begin, at the latest in the spring of next year - says Dimitrov.

He adds that it will be the only investment in the Beleš industrial zone in the near future, but that the Municipality is in the process of establishing the Beleš 2 industrial zone on some 12 hectares in continuation of the existing zone.

The project is nearing the end and we should receive a hundred million dinars from the state for equipping this new zone, for which we already have an interested Greek investor. It is a company that manufactures LED bulbs for Coca-Cola refrigerators throughout Europe and is interested in moving part of its production to us. They also want a commercial zone, some 1.5 hectares, which is not owned by the municipality, but is defined by the spatial plan, and by the end of the year it will be defined in the general regulation plan," says the first man of Dimitrovgrad for eKapija.

WASTEWATER PLANT "ON WAITING"

Vladica Dimitrov also says that the Municipality is waiting for when the state will finally give the green light to call for tenders for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant.

"We have a finished project and 3 million euros provided by the state, we are just waiting for the formation of a new government and the cabinet of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, because we have a problem with the relocation of transmission lines, which prevents us from starting the construction of the treatment plant for two years," says Dimitrov.

Among other large infrastructure investments in Dimitrovgrad, the expansion of water supply capacity stands out:

"By December, the projects for new wells will be completed, because next year we plan to work on expanding the source and increasing the capacity of the reservoir for drinking water."
