Portuguese photographer Ines d'Oray visited an art residency in the Serbian capital as part of the Belgrade Month of Photography 2021. On that occasion, her cycle "Concrete Belgrade" (Belgrade Concrete) was created, which explores the architecture and identity it gives to the territory where it originates in the context of Belgrade's heritage, and world modernist architecture of the twentieth century.
The project is in line with the many years of artistic work of Ines d’Oray, who conducted similar research in other cities such as Lisbon, Porto, Copenhagen and Tokyo. In the case of Belgrade, she was particularly interested in the mix of styles and architectural references she found in public buildings built between 1946 and 1980, and residential or commercial buildings dating back to the interwar period, when the architectural heritage of the two Yugoslavias intersected.
The monograph contains 53 reproductions, the author's text by the Portuguese art historian Andreja Garcia, as well as a conversation between Jelena Gačić, Marko Krsmanović-Simić and Siniša Vlajković. The project was supported by the Embassy of Portugal in Serbia, Galeria das Salgadeiras from Lisbon and "Belgrade Month of Photography".
