Drying laundry indoors during the winter is not a good, nor a sustainable idea, because water vapors from wet laundry can cause moisture to appear and also increase heating costs. Due to the moisture created by steam from wet laundry, the need for airing the rooms increases, which requires additional energy consumption for reheating. A proven and climate-friendly alternative during the winter season is an energy-efficient tumble dryer with a heat pump that not only saves energy, but is also quick and practical, and leaves the laundry soft and fragrant.

The heat pump tumble dryer represents a milestone in the introduction of sustainability principles in laundry care. Drying laundry involves the appearance of vapors and moisture, processes that require a lot of energy, and the heat pump works on the principle of extracting energy from the moist, warm air that is created in the drum during drying and returning it to the process, which significantly reduces the energy needed to heat a larger amount air. As a result, top-of-the-line Miele models equipped with a heat pump today exceed the A+++ rating for energy efficiency by 10%, while conventional condenser and vent dryers achieve, at best, only a B rating.

But it is not only energy efficiency that ensures sustainability. The use of adequate materials that last longer than one fashion season is also an important factor. A significant contribution to this is made by the floor module, which was developed from scratch and whose plastic is enriched with nitrogen, which saves 30 percent of material - while improving stability. In addition, the new Miele tumble dryers use R290, which is not harmful to the environment, as a refrigerant.

'DRYCARE 40' GENTLY DRIES EVEN THE MOST DELICATE FABRIC

The DryCare 40 option ensures that all items of clothing that can be washed at 40°C can be dried in the machine without worry - even those textiles that are not recommended for machine drying according to the label. This is made possible by reducing the air temperature during drying to ensure that delicate fabrics are dried so gently, without any damage. DryCare 40 can be selected for different washing programs, such as Cotton, Minimum Iron and Shirts, because the material is not exposed to unnecessary treatment, ensuring that the clothes retain their shape and remain soft to the touch.

Another convenience, which only Miele appliances offer, is the SilenceDrum. Thanks to the special design in which the drum is partially lined on the outside with insulating felt strips, the noise that can be generated by buttons or zippers during drying is significantly reduced.

The PowerFresh option helps to avoid unnecessary washing of clothes that have been sitting in the closet for a long time and only need to be refreshed to remove any odors that may have been absorbed. This option implies the inclusion of the hydration phase before the start of drying. Steam enables better heat transfer to the clothes, which more effectively releases and removes unwanted odor molecules. PowerFresh achieves its full potential in combination with the DryFresh bottle, which additionally neutralizes unpleasant odors and leaves behind an unobtrusive, fresh scent.

As with all appliances, Miele tests its tumble dryers for a life cycle of at least 20 years by performing a series of challenging and strenuous durability tests to simulate representative, real-world conditions.
