Each new bought car in Serbia will have to have an energy passport from December 25, and many are still not sure what this document even represents. Mirko Koković, assistant director of the Agency for Traffic Safety, answered questions about whether cars will become even more expensive because of this, whether the import of older used cars will become impossible, and whether they will be mandatory for old vehicles as well.

“The energy passport is a novelty, we normally don’t like changes, but this is a really good thing. The Law on Climate Change requires that there be a label on the economy of fuel consumption, as well as emissions of CO2 and harmful substances into the atmosphere. We Serbs are aware of the kind of cars we drive, how they affect the environment and how much they consume. Proof of this is that the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has allocated six billion dinars for subsidies for new and expansion of electric and hybrid vehicles”, he said.

Who has to get an energy passport for a car, the buyer or the seller?

“It is the responsibility of the seller, not the buyer. It is very important that the seller who puts a new vehicle on the market, at a fixed place or distance, in a clearly visible way and at his own expense, places an economy mark, which will contain information about the official fuel consumption, as well as the emission of harmful substances from the new car”, Koković said. in the morning program of First Television, reports mondo.rs.

Will obtaining an energy passport raise the price of new cars? Koković says that it will not affect the price of the vehicle, nor the content of the traffic license. But since Serbs mostly buy used cars, many people wonder if they will in the future “second hand” must have this mark, or the purchase of an imported and used car will be prevented.

“It is important to emphasize that this only applies to new car models, there is no energy passport for older models. For now! In the future, it may make sense for older vehicles to receive this label as well, in order to see how much they pollute and affect health. But for now there is no tendency to use this, or a similar method, governs the area of vehicles that are imported as used”, said Koković.
