Brussels authorities have made a decision according to which all parking lots with more than 10 spaces must install charging stations for electric vehicles by 2025, reports the website Smart Cities. The number of electric cars in the Belgian capital increased by 75% last year, and regional officials want to meet the growing demand in this way.

In addition, in 2020, the regional government decided to build 22,000 public filling stations by 2035, and with this policy, that number would be easier to reach. Also, the policy mandates that residential buildings also meet a certain threshold for electric cars.

From January 1, 2025, companies will have the obligation to convert at least 10% of their parking spaces into filling stations for their employees. That number, however, should grow to 20% in 2030. Public parking lots, on the other hand, should have 5% by 2025 and 10% by 2030.

This measure is in line with the European Union's general policy on electric cars and fossil fuel cars. Last summer, the European Commission adopted a law according to which, from 2035, new cars sold must have zero CO2 emissions.
