The winning solution for the expansion of the School of Electrical Engineering and technical faculties in Belgrade is the work of the 4MIND author team, which consists of Ilja Mikitišin, Lazar Kuzmanov, Igor Mikitišin and Nemanja Dačić. The competition announced in October last year had a pre-qualification, after which eight teams entered the shortlist.

The task of the competition was an urban solution for the location of an area of about one hectare of free space in the block. An architectural solution was also sought for a new building with a gross area of about 22,000 and about 7,000 square meters of garage space. The green roof, transparent glass curtain walls, as well as dynamic curtain sunshades unobtrusively fit into the architectural heritage of the existing faculties.

According to the description of the first-prize project, the zone of intra-block space between faculty buildings has been an unused space for years, and certainly valuable for forming an integration concept that will connect faculty students, but also important city communications with important views. located on the historical-urban transversal between Tašmajdan Park and the Park near the Vuk's monument, beogradske.rs reports.

"It is an imperative of the urban intervention in question and axially represents the visual communication link between these two extremely important park areas," the 4MIND bureau states.

The space between the buildings of various technical faculties, the University Library and the Archives served as a generator of communications, functions and ideas, so the authors created a "magnetic field" in space, as a kind of homage to Nikola Tesla.

The idea of the proposed urban magnetic field is to periodically change the direction and direction of users, but that the movement coincides with the axis of communication. Since the intensity of the movement changes over time, the authors state that we can call it an alternating and pulsating solution.

"The desire was to create such spaces that students lacked, places where they would gather, socialize and from which they would have easy access to content for monitoring the teaching of all faculties that form the contact border of the proposed urban solution," explains 4MIND.

The topic that the authors of the winning solution dealt with was the organization of the campus, which never existed in the classical sense in the mutual relationship between these faculties, although, they emphasize, this is the only place in the city where faculties are even physically directed at each other.

The idea, they added, was to create a public space that would be used by both students and citizens.

"Our idea was to create a primary and primary place for students, which will also be used by citizens." That polyvalence is something that was lacking in the spatial relationship between the faculties ", they point out in 4MIND.

With the proposed ramps and sloping terrain, pedestrian communications are an integral part of the architectural solution.

The new intra-block space, which is assigned to pedestrians, is identified in the architectural solution, and in that way the urban and architectural expression is equalized.

As a contribution to green construction, leveled plateaus are planned, partly in the slope, which will be covered with low and high vegetation. The atriums will enable the penetration of light towards the underground levels, so that they would build one architectural whole with the parts of the buildings that were on the higher floors.

In two vertical parts of the building, ie two towers, are the offices of professors, assistant professors and assistants. Their position is functionally determined as separate and distinct from the rest of the faculty.

The underground garage will take over a large number of vehicles that have been parked in the yard between the faculties so far. The two entrances will be from streets Karnegijeva and Kraljice Marije.

"These were the two most logical approaches to the garage, given the existing leveling of the terrain, which is declining towards the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering," the authors note.

In those places, there are two two-way ramps towards the garage, which is -3 on the underground level, and belongs to the large garage.
