Launched into the online orbit just over a month ago, Podcast SFERA on YouTube is slowly but surely becoming a meeting place for local creatives and enthusiasts who create a better living space, a place that gathers all those who see architecture as a mechanism for social change.

SFERA was launched with the goal of creating a community consisting of architects, urban planners, social activists, and creatives from related disciplines who responsibly understand their professional role in society.

The authors and producers of the podcast Miljan Salata, Igor Mikitišin, Nemanja Dačić and Denis Turanović, have been friends since college, and the idea that architecture can be a mechanism for social change originates from student days and was crystallized through many years of participation in domestic architectural competitions, gradnja.rs reports.

SFERA as an idea appeared at the moment when the authors recognized that there was a need for a public/media space within which the professional community could present a critical review of the current situation both in the profession and in society. The idea is to avoid the elitist narrative that architects often resort to as a way to insulate and protect themselves. Open and direct communication through internet platforms and social media is necessary to achieve the goals of SFERA.

SFERA starts as a local media phenomenon but tends to be recognized as a regional platform for dialogue about architecture, and its authors say that they did not expect such good reactions in such a short period of time. They believe that architecture is not and must not be a hermetic sphere but must open up to a wider audience.

The duration of one episode varies from ten minutes to over two hours, and the authors emphasize that the podcast (play-on-demand broadcasting) as a form should not have a time limit for the simple reason that it was created as a kind of antithesis to the standard television format.

The author team explains that the initial idea for the first season is to show the local architectural scene, that is, "the range of knowledge, skills, and breadth of thinking that architects possess."
