In the relatively large competition of the received solutions, the team of the project studio Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) from London was chosen as the winner of the international competition for the architectural conceptual design of the future concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic. The planned location of the facility is in New Belgrade next to the Palace of Serbia, in Block 13. The initiative for the construction of a new hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic was launched more than a decade ago by the longtime director of this renowned institution, Ivan Tasovac. The modern building should be the home of the leading orchestra in the region, but also a new symbol of Belgrade, and Serbia, and a meeting point for the whole world. The realization of the modern concert hall of the Belgrade Philharmonic would be the biggest investment in cultural facilities after several decades.

Located next to the historic Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade, the project represents an exceptional commitment to building a brighter, more sustainable future for the city. With more rooms for performances, rehearsals and creative work, including a 1,600-seat symphony concert hall, the hall will be the first of its kind in the Balkans, an internationally recognized platform for world-class music performance that will contribute to Serbia's social and economic development.

Explaining her concept, the head of the winning team, Amanda Levitt, says: “The landscape around the Danube River and the ambience of the park is our starting point. The use of the water surface to reflect the building and the surrounding nature conjures up a wetland area that originally enabled the Serbian people to develop successfully here. The return of the park to nature as an ambience for the new Concert Hall sends an advanced message about the need to transform our cities and make them greener, cleaner and more beautiful. Now more than ever, the tension between nature and cities must be reconciled. We do it here by imagining the Belgrade Philharmonic Concert Hall as an expression of harmony. Harmony between building and natural space, between east and west, between old and new, between generations and between cultures. ”
