The 7.9-kilometer section of the highway from Novi Belgrade to Surčin will be completed by March 31, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced. During a tour of the works on that section, he said that it will shorten the road from Belgrade to the Miloš Veliki highway by about 20 kilometers.

The section's construction will cost 58 million euros and will be funded by the Serbian budget, with the Chinese company China Communication Construction Company serving as the main contractor.

"This is an important section of the highway; it will save people time and allow them to travel faster to Čačak, Užice, Požega, Ub, Lazarevac, and many other places. This is almost over; there are still 500 meters to go," said Vučić.

The road has three traffic lanes in both directions and bidirectional bicycle and pedestrian paths that are two meters wide.

The Chinese Ambassador, Chen Bo, said that infrastructure is the main area of cooperation between China and Serbia and that Chinese companies have great confidence in the Serbian market.

"We are ready to continue expanding cooperation that contributes to the growth of the Serbian economy," she said.

President Vučić added that the ring road around Belgrade is a traffic road of key importance, which will enable the city and the air in the city to be protected while at the same time attracting more traffic and relieving the burden on the center.

Vučić stated that the Iriški venac road will be completed in three years, connecting Novi Sad to the highways to Zagreb and Niš, as well as Šabac and Loznica.
