The first section of the Morava Corridor between Pojate and Makrešane, which is also the first digital highway in our country, was opened yesterday for traffic. The Morava Corridor is an investment worth about 800 million euros, with Koridori Srbije as the investor. This highway, with a total length of 112 kilometers, connects the Raška, Rasina, and Morava districts, or half a million people in central Serbia. The completion of works on the Morava Corridor is planned for 2025, and the works are being carried out by the American-Turkish consortium Bechtel and Enka, as reported by ekapija.com.

This is, as emphasized, the first smart highway in our country, or the first digital highway. This means that the highway itself and the surrounding area will be equipped with sensors and information about the condition of the road, possible accidents, and other data, ensuring a high level of traffic safety. The Morava Corridor is also the widest road in Serbia, 30 meters wide, and will have a total of 11 interchanges, 71 bridges, 23 overpasses, 5 underpasses, and 31 culverts along its entire length. It will also have stations for free internet.

The opening ceremony of the section was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, accompanied by ministers and diplomatic representatives.

According to President Vučić, the entire opening of the Morava Corridor is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

"In September-October, we will open an 11-kilometer section to Koševo, and by the end of 2024, the Čačak-Adrani section will be opened. We will open the remaining 56 kilometers by the end of 2025, thereby completing the digital, widest highway in Serbia," Vučić emphasized.

As he noted, seven bridges, three overpasses, six slab culverts, and two retaining walls were completed on these 17 kilometers.

"People will benefit from this through new investments and through a new industrial zone in Ćićevac. This corridor will be used by everyone going to a spa or to Kopaonik," the president said during the opening ceremony.

U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill said it was an honor to participate in the opening of the Morava Corridor Highway and that he was proud that an American company brought Serbia something great. "The highway is important for the community and the economy," added the U.S. ambassador.

U.K. Ambassador Sian MacLeod said she was happy to see the vision become reality before the end of her mandate and added that this highway was the first in Europe financed by the UK Export Finance agency.

As noted, there will be no toll collection on this section until autumn.
