Photo: FreepikDubravka Djedović, Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia and Suhail Al-Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), agreed in Abu Dhabi to sign a cooperation agreement in the field of hydrogen development as a new energy source and the continuation of cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources, ekapija.com reports.
It was noted at the meeting that cooperation between Serbia and the United Arab Emirates in the energy sector is moving in the right direction. The next step to strengthen cooperation is the exchange of experience, expert and technical knowledge regarding the use of hydrogen as a fuel, it was stated in the announcement.
”Hydrogen is the energy of the future that will enable cleaner energy with less impact on the environment. The UAE has knowledge, developed technologies, and companies that, based on the friendly relations between our two countries and the leaders of President Aleksandar Vučić and Sheikh Muhammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, are already operating in Serbia in the field of RES and can be significant partners for us in the further development of RES, but also green and blue hydrogen as a new energy source in our energy system,” said Dubravka Djedović.
She emphasized that utilizing RES potential is a crucial tool for enhancing Serbia's energy security and reaching the goal of climate neutrality, which is one of the major global challenges.
"The most important achievement of cooperation between Serbia and the United Arab Emirates so far is the Čibuk 1 wind farm, which can supply with energy 113,000 households. We will also begin construction on Čibuk 2 with a capacity of 150 MW later this year. We probably will not stop on this since the UAE companies are also interested in solar energy projects, where they have a lot of experience," the Minister said.
