SECURITY AND COMPANY STATUS ARE VISIBLE AT THE ENTRANCE

Building protection is a very serious and complex task nowadays. Everything starts at the entrance to the facility, where the flow of people and vehicles should be controlled and access restricted to authorized persons. The company Lunatronik, which has been dealing with integrated security systems since 1990, offers a whole range of solutions that you can adapt to a specific situation.

Modern business premises also include the control of visitors at the entrance, whether it is a plot of land, a building, or rooms on the first floor of an office building. Different types of businesses require different authorization procedures for visitors. While it is important for a shopping center to be able to serve as many visitors as possible without special authorization, but with the need to count them and possibly charge them for parking, until then the data center will require only authorized persons have access to the equipment, with strict control and keeping a log of visits. That's why a realistic assessment of needs is the first step when designing a visitor control system.

FLOW AND SECURITY LEVEL

Each type of access control system is designed for a specific flow of people, that is, the number of people who pass through the entrance area in one minute or one hour. If there is a large flow of people, say about 60 per minute, a suitable solution is a sensor barrier, i.e., a fast gate. For a slightly lower flow rate, around 48 people per minute (for example, entering a platform), a three-arm revolving barrier is usually chosen. High, three-pronged barriers (at the full height of people) are used for medium flows, and for smaller flows, so-called VIP barriers or double doors (security cabin).

The system must certainly be adapted to the available space at the entrance to the building or other object. The reception area of the building represents the first impression of every visitor, so aesthetics are also important. The entrance should contribute to the overall image of the company but also allow rational entry into the building, not only for employees but also for visitors, who have to wait somewhere to be authorized and receive the appropriate token, card, or other device that will allow them to pass through the entry barrier. Of course, you should always think about the needs of people with special needs.

Choosing the type of authorization is another challenge; usually smart cards or codes are used, but there are other solutions adapted to specific situations with the use of a mobile phone. There is also the possibility of using biometric parameters (fingerprint, retina scan), and facial recognition can also be considered.

Contactless forms of identification are much faster than using a card and keyboard. It is very important that the system used is well integrated into the complete security environment, including the company's information system.

SECURITY CHALLENGES

There will always be people who try to "outsmart" the control system at the entrance to the facility. One of the frequent methods is the so-called "tailgating", an attempt to enter a protected area by walking right behind a person who is authorized to pass, say without his consent. And there is also the possibility that two visitors, of whom only one is authorized to enter, agree to pass together. In both cases, the sensors should detect that more than one person has crossed the barrier using a single authorization. Standing too long in the entry zone while the person is waiting for someone with valid identification to open the gate so they can pass together is also suspicious. In such cases, the system can refuse passage, then turn on the alarm and thus alert the security service, which will check what it is about.

Let's also mention the attempt to pass through the barrier from the opposite direction; most rapid passage barriers can be configured to allow passage in any direction, but it is always clearly indicated, for example with a green arrow, where passage is allowed and where it is prohibited (a red cross). Sensors detect if someone enters the exit zone from the wrong direction without accreditation. There are, of course, classic methods of bypassing the security system by jumping over the barrier, sneaking under it, or forcing it open.

Meeting security and throughput requirements often involves engineering compromises. For example, if it is about entering a platform, it may be better to allow for the possibility that someone will occasionally jump the barrier than to invest heavily in preventing it. On the other hand, at the entrance to a data center, jumping the barrier is absolutely not acceptable. In both cases, the existence of quality video surveillance is a way to see the problem in order to solve it in an appropriate way. Finally, it should be borne in mind that stricter security checks inevitably reduce the flow of people. That's why you need to analyze the flow patterns for your business premises in order to choose the right combination - for example, check how the flow rises and falls during the day. You can use various types of visitor counters for this.

HOW TO GET A ROUNDED SYSTEM

Lunatronik can help you with system design, component procurement, installation and commissioning. They will also discuss with you the return on investment, which includes considering the life of the product, its reliability, energy efficiency and the need to hire staff. The technical training of the staff on the operation of the system is especially important, as well as the education of the employees on its functioning and proper use. Security implies costs and investment of human labor, but in today's world it is necessary.
