The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić, celebrated their Railway New Year with railway employees, which is traditionally celebrated on the night of the entry into force of the new timetable, and told them that they can celebrate their holiday with optimism, because a decade of major investments is coming. in stripes.

Vesić said that the Railway New Year is a holiday for everyone who works in the railways, and this December 11th is a particularly important day, because the next year, apart from the new timetable, will be characterized by greater investments in the railways.

The minister reminded that for the first time in history, Serbia got the high-speed railway Belgrade - Novi Sad, pointing out that in the nine months since it was put into traffic, 16,000 trains have passed through that railway, and more than two million passengers have been transported.

The construction of a high-speed railway towards Subotica is underway, which will be completed in 2025, when our Hungarian partners will finish their part, so we will already have a fast connection between Belgrade and Budapest that year, Vesić added.

He also stated that this month a contract will be signed with the EU on the construction of a high-speed railway to Nis, which is expected to be completed in 2028, which means that by the end of the decade we will have a high-speed railway from Nis to Budapest, which will later be continued to Preševo, probably then and further, towards Thessaloniki and Istanbul.

Vesić pointed out that Serbia is ready to build a high-speed railway to Šid, 90 kilometers long, so that, if Slovenia and Croatia see interest in it, we can also have a high-speed railway to Vienna in the future.

He also stated that a contract on the reconstruction of the Valjevo-Vrbnica railway, which is part of the Belgrade-Bar railway, is expected soon, after the section from Resnik to Valjevo is completed, because this international railway corridor is very important.

Next is the reconstruction of the railway Kraljevo - Stalać - Rudnica, while the bypass around Niš is currently under construction.

Vesić mentioned that, after sector C on the bypass around Belgrade is completed in June, the contracting of the further construction of the highway ring around the capital, from Belgrade to Pancevo, will follow, which will also include the construction of a large road-railway bridge near Vinča, novosti.rs writes. .

"This will enable the entire railway traffic to be relocated from Belgrade. This is how we will get a road and railway bypass with a new bridge," said Minister Vesić.

This is followed by investments in the Belgrade node, i.e. the construction of a new railway station, with a bus station, in New Belgrade, along with investments in the Belgrade railway, since with the construction of the metro, it is necessary to invest in the city railway, so that all suburban municipalities are connected and so that large number of passengers could use the metro.

"A decade of major investments in railways is coming. This is the vision of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to connect every part of the country, so that railway workers can welcome their New Year with optimism, because there has never been more investment in railways, in railways", the relevant minister told them.

Vesić added that, with all the investments, it is necessary for the companies working in the railway sector to be more efficient and less dependent on subsidies, and more on the money they will be able to earn on their own.

"The state invests billions in the railways, and now the railways should start generating income, especially when it comes to cargo transport." We are finishing the intermodal terminal in Batajnica, we will build one in Makis. These are all the investments that follow, but in addition, we have to find a way to repay everyone who works in the railway more for the work they do", Minister Vesić concluded.
