The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at a meeting on renewable energy sources, singled out the North and Baltic Seas where members have decided to invest in the production of energy using windmills. She said that Sicily is home to the largest factory for the production of new generation solar panels in Europe.

Ursula von der Leyen pointed out that we need renewable energy sources. "The role of the Baltic and North Seas should be highlighted, as well as Sicily, where the largest factory for the production of solar panels in Europe is located, and in northern Germany local trains already use green hydrogen in solar power," the EC president said.

Italians are proud of the fact that they are one of the pioneers of the ecological transition thanks to the "Enel Green Power" project in Catania and the investment in the "3Sun Gigafactory" factory, which is at the forefront of the production of innovative photovoltaic models that are completely ecological.

This factory was created in 2010, and in April "Enel Green Power" and the European Commission signed an agreement on a non-refundable subsidy loan that will contribute to the development of "Tango" project.

Thus, the "3Sun Gigafactory" will become the largest European factory for the production of double-sided photovoltaic models of high achievements, where 1,000 people will get a chance to get a job by 2024, writes rts.rs.

Already 600 million euros are ready for new jobs, and the European Union has earmarked another 118 million euros thanks to the National Sustainability Plan and the Innovation Fund.

"Thanks to the panels, every year carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 2.5 million tons, with a saving of 1.2 million cubic meters of gas," Eliano Russo, CEO of the 3Sun Gigafactory, told Italian media, adding that the first 400 megawatts will be active in about 12 months, until September 2023, while the remaining 2.6 gigawatts are planned for July 2024.

The 3Sun Gigafactory relies on state-of-the-art technology based on heterojunction, which will be more efficient and stable.

The panels will have a longer life and be more sustainable. Rousseau also underlines that the goal is for Europe to become independent from China in this way.

"In the medium term, starting in 2025, the supply chain will be fully European." This means respecting labor, emission limits, rules on sustainability, disposal and waste of materials," Russo said.
