The war in Ukraine and the economic sanctions that America and the European Union are imposing on Russia, have forced many Western companies to leave Moscow, but also many Russians to move their businesses to other European countries. The data of the Business Registers Agency also confirmed that Serbia is one of their new destinations. As APR told Euronews Serbia, in the past month and a half, since February 24, 288 companies have been registered in Serbia, the founders or members of which are Russian citizens. Out of that, 86 are companies and 202 are entrepreneurs.

Information from the state business register shows that the trend of establishing companies in Serbia whose owners are citizens or companies from Russia has significantly increased since the war in Ukraine began. In previous years, a total of 1,400 companies headed by Russians were opened in Serbia, and every fourth company was founded in the past month and a half.

"According to the current situation, there are 876 companies in the Register of Business Entities whose founders or members of shares in the company are natural and legal persons from the Russian Federation, as well as 524 entrepreneurs who are citizens of the Russian Federation," APR told Euronews Serbia.

According to the APR, Russians from Belgrade program, trade and engage in counseling. The predominant activities of companies whose founders or members are individuals and legal entities from the Russian Federation are computer programming, specialized wholesale, consulting activities related to business and other management and consulting activities in the field of IT.

Almost the same activities are among entrepreneurs. In the Serbian capital, they are mainly engaged in programming and consulting activities related to business and other management. Among those who have opened their own entrepreneurial shops in Belgrade are designers, and web portals stand out as an activity, as well.

"With its headquarters in Belgrade, the establishment of 65 companies and 155 entrepreneurs, whose founders or owners are shares from the Russian Federation, has been registered. The headquarters in Novi Sad has 14 newly established companies and 29 entrepreneurs, while the headquarters of three companies are in Loznica, "the APR states.

One company and one entrepreneur whose owners are from Russia are registered in Niš, while the headquarters in Subotica has five entrepreneurs, and in Smederevo two.

As euronews.rs writes, there are indications that about 2,000 people who worked for international corporations in Russia will come to our country. Some companies have already relocated their offices to Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but it is expected that companies with a larger number of Russian employees will decide to come to Serbia sooner. Apartments and business space in Belgrade are already being sought, and that could be a side effect of this whole crisis that will damage the economy of the whole world this year.

269 companies and entrepreneurial shops owned by citizens of Ukraine are also registered in Serbia. Since Russia's attack on this country, five companies and one entrepreneur from this country have been established in Serbia. They operate in Belgrade and Niš, and are engaged in consulting and programming.

In the last twenty days, as Euronws Serbia has already reported, real estate agencies in Belgrade, Novi Sad, but also in other cities in Serbia, have noticed a sharp increase in rent, but also the purchase of apartments, houses and business premises by Russian and Ukrainian citizens. Real estate agents say that the capital of Serbia has become an attractive location for living for wealthier Russian and Ukrainian IT experts. After the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions against Russia around the world, many companies were forced to move their workers to safer places, so it is estimated that several thousand people have come to Serbia so far, and that number is expected to grow.
