FOREIGN INVESTMENTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY NEARLY A BILLION EUROS IN 2022

According to data from the National Bank of Serbia, foreign direct investments reached around 4.3–4.4 billion euros this year.

The National Bank also published data on foreign direct investments by country of origin for the first nine months of this year, during which the inflow of FDI amounted to 2.8 billion euros.

Looking at countries, the largest inflow of investments came from China—just over one billion euros. Great Britain follows with 260.7 million euros, followed by Germany with 247.6 million euros. Japan is in fourth place with investments worth around 200 million euros.

Cyprus is next with 185 million euros of investment, and Slovenia is in fifth place with 166.6 million euros. 163.7 million euros came from Austria and 162.6 million from Switzerland.

The USA is in ninth place with around 95 million euros invested in the first three quarters of this year in Serbia. The list of the largest investors also includes the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ireland, Russia, Hungary, and Italy.

The majority of investments have been made in the processing industry, which dominates with 1.3 billion euros and includes tire and plastics production (444 million euros) and motor vehicle production (294 million euros).

In construction, foreigners invested almost one billion, or more precisely, 999 million euros, in the first nine months of this year, and in wholesale and retail trade, including car repair, 300 million euros.

226 million euros were invested in the real estate business.
