Transmission system operators from Slovenia and Serbia, together with EPEX SPOT, established the first regional electricity exchange for Central and Southeastern Europe.

The Alpine-Adriatic Danube Electricity Exchange (ADEX) is the first regional electricity exchange for Central and Southeastern Europe, founded by ELES, Elektromreža Srbije (EMS), and the European Electricity Exchange (EPEX SPOT), the Energy Portal reports.

The newly established ADEX will offer harmonized and unique ("one-stop-shop") services for electricity spot trade in Slovenia and Serbia, with the ambition to expand its operations to other countries in the regions of Central and Southeastern Europe.

"With the establishment of the regional electricity exchange ADEX, the Slovenian electricity exchange BSP, which previously operated only in the Slovenian market, becomes a key player in the electricity market and in the wider European area," said Aleksander Mervar, chief executive officer of ELES, a transmission system operator in the Republic of Slovenia, and president of the ELES group.

"This outstanding achievement will further encourage the development of the regional electricity market and provide a strong and reliable market environment necessary for new investments in RES and a sustainable green transition. In addition, we believe that this initiative will serve as a good model for other countries in Central and Southeastern Europe to join this advanced business infrastructure," said Jelena Matejić, general director of EMS.

"The electricity exchange ADEX will stimulate the overall trade activity and market development in Central and Southeastern Europe. The whole of Europe will benefit from this new center of stock exchange activities, as it will further accelerate regional and European integration,", said Ralf Danielski, Chief Executive Officer of EPEX SPOT.

The initiative remains open to all other partners who would like to join ADEX in order to improve the integration of the electricity spot market in Central and Southeastern Europe.

Anže Predovnik, executive director of BSP Southpool, said: "The time has come for the countries of the Western Balkans to access the integrated European electricity market."
